Description

Bill McHenry is a saxophonist and composer who lives between New York, Maine and Barcelona. Already with an extensive career, he has recorded several albums as a leader and collaborated with musicians such as Andrew Cyrille, Paul Motian, Eric Revis, Guillermo Klein, Andrew D’Angelo, Reid Anderson, Orrin Evans, Rebecca Martin, Duane Eubanks, Jamie Saft, Ethan Iverson , among many others.
Equally with a long career, double bassist Drew Gress became visible during the 80s when he founded the group Joint Venture. In addition to his own projects, Gress has since become one of the most sought-after double bassists on the US jazz scene. Among many others, Gress has played as a leader or sideman with musicians such as Fred Hersch, Don Byron, Dave Douglas, Tim Berne, Craig Taborn, Tom Rainey, Ralph Alessi or Erik Friedlander.
Born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Jeff Williams began his career as a drummer in New York in 1971. By 1972 Williams was playing with historic saxophonist Stan Getz and later with Dave Liebman.
Other collaborations include musicians such as Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz, Tony Malaby, Paul Bley, Ethan Iverson, or Leo Genovese. In London, where he lived for a few years, he shared the stage with Norma Winston, Kenny Wheeler and Martin Speake, and formed his own group that included musicians such as John O’Gallagher, Kit Downes, Phil Robson and John Hébert.
The trio that performs at Jazz no Picadeiro 2024 is a world premiere, a meeting of musicians from the same environment, who know and respect each other, but who have never converged on the same stage.
